Beverley

A keen gardener all her life, Beverly was devastated when she had to leave her home and garden.  She felt the loss of independence would greatly impact her life but after losing her beloved husband and then her drivers licence she decided it would be the best move.

Living at Opal Raynbird Place since early 2012, she is both surprised and delighted with the amount of independence she has. She continues to be active in the garden, taking it on as her own and delighting the other residents with beautiful flowers she has grown. She is able to keep her love of swimming active by joining the homes’ swimming program and making regular visits to the local hydro pool with other residents. Also a keen sewer, the staff at Opal Raynbird created a sewing area for her to continue enjoying this activity and she can often be found quietly reading her book in the garden.

“One of the things I most enjoy about living here is that I can be involved in so many different activities. There are many choices I can make and this gives me a level of independence I didn’t think I would have.”

Bev is often seen helping other residents and particularly enjoys taking on the role of buddy to new residents, helping them to settle in and encouraging others to enjoy all the other home to offer.

“I love the company here at Raynbird – the staff and residents, we all feel like one big family!”
